Mission Statement

The Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation conducts scientific research and hosts educational programs aimed at conserving the marine environment. The GHOF will help ensure that future generations can enjoy and benefit from a naturally balanced ocean ecosystem.

Dr. Guy Harvey

Founder & Chair

Dr. Guy Harvey founded the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation with 10 board members in 2008. Its original purpose was to provide financial aid to scientific projects that were being delayed due to complicated funding channels. Now it has grown to encompass educational initiatives and provide man power to carry out some of the projects GHOF are involved with. Dr. Harvey has a PhD. in Fisheries Management from the University of the West Indies, Jamaica and uses his lifetime of experience and trained expertise to affect change needed to save our oceans. Steve Roden

Co-Chair

Steve Roden is the CEO of Guy Harvey Enterprises as well as co-chair of GHOF. A knowledge entrepreneur, Roden has spent his career turning around small companies and building a series of start-ups that were either sold to public companies or merged with larger entities. Roden has also worked closely with Florida State University mentoring professors in launching ideas through creativity and innovation. He was named “Partner of the Year” by the FSU Research Foundation and has been recognized twice as a top entrepreneur in Florida by FSU’s Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship.

Our Team

Patxi Pastor - President

Patxi Pastor, President of the GHOF is also the Co-Founder of Mission Resolve Foundation and Founder and CEO of Celebration of the Sea Foundation. With his vast experience in cause related marketing, his goal is to inspire, educate and engage people around the world to protect the ocean and the world’s natural resources.

Jessica Harvey - Project Manager

Growing up with Guy Harvey, she was destined to pursue a career in conservation and her imprinted love of the ocean facilitates the passion for her position as Project Manager of the GHOF.

Greg Jacoski - Executive Director

Greg met Guy while completing his Master’s Degree from NSU and working with National Coral Reef Institute. In 2008, he joined GHOF full time and serves as the Executive Director.

Fred Garth - Magazine Editor in Chief

In the 30 years since Fred has worked for media giants such as the New York Times, Gannett Inc. and National Geographic, he has launched more than a dozen print magazines, numerous websites and serves on many conservation organizations.

George Schellenger - Executive Producer

George is a two-time Emmy award winner with more than 30 years’ experience in television and content development.

Matt Raine - Director of Marketing

Matt is excited to help through digital marketing in order to create and promote a more resilient future for our planet. Matt has held marketing roles within the sports industry in which he is equally passionate about. 

Amanda Martin - Director of Development

Amanda holds her B.S. in Marine Biology from the University of Miami and M.S. from Nova Southeastern University. She whole-heartedly believes that together, with passion and perseverance, we can effect change.

Valerie Gaynor - Director of Education

Valerie Gaynor has a bachelor’s degree in Unified Science Education K-12 and Master’s degrees in both Biology and Educational Leadership.  Valerie has taught life sciences for over 20 years in public schools.   Valerie’s hope is that, through her enthusiasm and experience, people will come to understand the awe and beauty of our watery planet.

Dr. Gary K. Ostrander – Science Education Advisor

Over the last 25 years Dr. Ostrander has served as a professor and senior research administrator at Johns Hopkins University, the University of Hawaii and Florida State University.  In addition to field work, he utilizes biochemical, molecular biological and cellular approaches to address critical issues related to the world-wide degradation of coral reef ecosystems.
